The exhibition “Image to image” was held in the galleries of Heritage House and Serbian Academy of Science and Arts from November 16 to December 16, 2021. The goal of this major cultural event was to present the development and innovations within the visual art during the 1960s and 1970s. The exhibition, curated by Daniel Kvaran, Gunnar Kvaran and Dina Pavić, brought to Belgrade the works of 21 representatives of European figurative art, including Richard Hamilton, Mimmo Rotella, Erró, Alain Jacquet, Peter Klasen, Vladimir Veličković, Valerio Adami, Jacques Monory, Kiki Kogelnik, Vera Fischer, Peter Stämpfli, Mića Popović, Andrej Jemec and others.
The works which were displayed within the exhibition showed how the artists have utillized new cultural movements (Pop-art, noveau réalisme, artistic performance) to express their thoughts on the society of that period. The main themes which they tackled were rampant consumerism and growing impact of pop culture. Using photography and collage as a main tools to promote their ideas, artists analyzed social, political and cultural landscape of their cities, countries and entire world. In that period more and more young artists turned away from the traditional forms of art and started using non-traditional and apstract themes to deal with social conflicts, colonial past of their countries, female and minority rights, Cold War and other pressing issues. The exhibition also showcased in one place the most used contemporary art techinques of the past fourty years, demonstrating how different pieces put together can form a bigger, stronger and clearer image or an idea.
